Degrees - General Information

The Faculty of Education, Psychology and Social Work teaches more than one thousand four hundred students, who can study degrees related to education and social sciences. There is also a diverse range of master’s degrees, both our own and shared with other universities. All curricula and master’s degrees take into account the practical training of students by means of practicum, which is compulsory in private schools in order to bring together professional reality and academia.

 

Degree in Early Childhood Education

The degree in Early Childhood Education enables practising the regulated profession of teacher and covers the basic training of children from zero to six years of age, both in schools that depend on public administration and the private sector, as well as develop activities in other contexts of non-formal education.

The professional profile of the teacher or the teacher of early childhood education is generalist, able to develop all the core subjects of teaching children and their interdisciplinary relationship, as well as attending to the comprehensive education of children as people.

Creative Management

The reality of education is in the process of redefining it geographies. The latest advances in pedagogy, psychology, neuroscience and different conceptual areas have meant that increasingly there are more schools that set forth profoundly transforming methodologies, organizations and architectures. The degree of Early Childhood Education in Creative Management aims to provide training to respond to this new, constantly evolving situation.

Degree in Primary Education

The professional profile of the teacher or the teacher of primary education is generalist, able to develop all the core subjects of primary teaching and their interdisciplinary relationship, as well as attending to the comprehensive education of children as people. The exercise of this profession is developed mainly in schools that depend on public administration and the private sector, but can also be linked to many other non-formal educational contexts.

With the change of the times in the teaching profession, today we must not think about people merely transmitting knowledge to children, but professionals with initiative and willingness to participate in group work processes, able to reflect on their practice and committed to their profession; capable of guiding students in knowledge management and adaptation to changes in a society that is increasingly complex and rapidly changing; capable of encouraging students in their critical sense and restlessness to learn throughout the years of schooling and throughout the entire life, both locate it in the commitments and values of a just and pluralistic society.

Dual Method

The Dual Method is a learning method that combines, from the beginning, two training scenarios: a Primary School and the FEPTS. Students learn in a professional environment where the profession is exercised for which the training takes place with direct contact with students and teachers of the school.

Bilingual Plan

The Bilingual Plan is structured around the areas of the official curriculum, along with training materials in the field of psychology, to develop teaching skills related to the general practice of the profession of teacher in primary education.

Its specificity is based on progressive and intensified teaching of the English language and its education. Thus, the Bilingual Plan of the Degree in Primary Education enables the students of Primary Education who so desire to go deeper in the learning and teaching of the English language, and secondly, prepare them to teach any area of the curriculum in English in their future as teachers, as many primary schools require today.

Degree in Social Education

A social educator can work as a professional in various socio-educational fields, which can be organized according to different parameters. Considering the institutions/organizations that integrate a social educator into multi-professional teams, four areas can be distinguished:

  • Social services: primary care social services, childhood, adolescence and family at social risk, adoption and foster care, people with disabilities, the elderly, drug addiction, mental health, domestic violence, etc.
  • Justice: measures in open environments, juvenile justice centres, open penitentiary services, penitentiary services, etc.
  • Socio-cultural and education activities for free time: youth, culture and leisure areas from different administrations, leisure time services and programmes, children’s play centre, recreational organizations, programmes and services promoting community development and citizen participation services aimed at socio-cultural promotion, etc.
  • Long-life learning: programmes for transition to working life, vocational training centres, guidance services and programmes, welcoming and educating immigrants, etc.

Simultaneity between the Degree in Social Education and the Degree in Social Work

The simultaneity between the Degree in Social Education and the Degree in Social Work is a proposal by the FEPTS, designed to be able to reconcile the studies and the acquisition of skills for both degrees.

This particular training programme consists of studying all subjects in the Social Education Degree and a selection of key subjects of the Social Work Degree. Students that decide to follow this programme could obtain the Degree in Social Work by taking 114 ECTS of this degree, validating a total of 126 ECTS.

Once this programme is finished, the student will receive two degrees: the Degree in Social Education and the Degree in Social Work.

Degree in Psychology

The Degree in Psychology aims to train professionals with the scientific knowledge needed to understand, interpret, analyse and explain human behaviour with the abilities and basic skills to assess and intervene in individual and social areas throughout the life cycle, so as to promote and improve health and quality of life. This is done in three areas: educational, social and clinical. And soon this practice will be regulated by law to enable proper professional practice.

Degree in Social Work

This discipline has the objective of social evaluation and intervention due to the social needs of promoting change, problem solving in human relationships and strengthening and the freedom of society to increase wellbeing and cohesion by means of using theories on human behaviour and social systems and applying specific methodology that integrates social work in every case, group and community.

Social work intervenes at points where people interact with their environment.

The principles of human rights and justice are fundamental to social work, as well as the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.

Simultaneity between the Degree in Social Work and the Degree in Social Education

The simultaneity between the Degree in Social Work and the Degree in Social Education is a proposal by the FEPTS, designed to be able to reconcile the studies and the acquisition of skills for both degrees.

This particular training programme consists of studying all subjects in the Social Work Degree and a selection of key subjects of the Social Education Degree. Students that decide to follow this programme could obtain the Degree in Social Education by taking 108 ECTS of this degree, validating a total of 132 ECTS.

Once this programme is finished, the student will receive two degrees: the Degree in Social Work and the Degree in Social Education.

Double degree in Early Childhood Education/Primary Education

With the aim of enhancing professional opportunities for students interested in studying the field of teaching, the FEPTS has designed a Double Degree in Early Childhood Education/Primary Education, which allows obtaining both degrees, a Degree in Early Childhood Education and a Degree in Primary Education, within five years, taking a total of 352 credits.

This double education programme should confer general teaching abilities to graduates to help develop, protect and promote the learning achievement of the objectives established by the educational system for early childhood education and primary education.

Double degree Early Childhood Ed. Primary/CAFE

The double degree in Primary Education and in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences allows the simultaneous completion of studies for both educational plans, offered by the FEPTS and the National Institute of Physical Education of Catalonia in Lleida.

This double programme is designed in such a way that it ensures that the studies and the acquisition of skills for both degrees are compatible.

This dual educational programme involves studying a selection of key subjects in the Degree in Primary Education and the Degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences for five years and with a workload of 366 credits.

The student, upon completion of this course, will receive a Degree in Primary Education and a Degree in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences.
